Touched down in Australia!
So excited to finally be in Australia again! And yes I’m working in Australia again this time too! I’m pretty lucky as I was just here in November – only four months ago. I try to fly back home once year from Toronto but it got difficult with having a regular corporate job and only having three weeks leave! But I always count myself lucky because no matter what I can always come home, be with my family and enjoy the warm and sunny weather.
When I tell people I’m from Australia, people have often expressed how much they wish to come here but just can’t handle the flight. Sure, it’s tough to do a 24-30 hour flight (depending on which route you go) and I really used to dread it! I used to do some pretty awful layovers and routes. The worst being:
- Take a taxi to Bay Station (15 minutes)
- Take a coach bus to Buffalo airport (2 hours)
- Take a flight from Buffalo to New York airport (40 minutes)
- Layover at New York airport (6 hours)
- Take a flight from New York to Los Angeles airport (6 hours)
- Layover at Los Angeles (3.5 hours)
- Take a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney (14 hours)
- Layover at Sydney (2 hours)
- Flight from Sydney to Melbourne (1 hour)
- Total travel time: 35.5 hours
This was literally the worst! To top it off, when I arrived in Melbourne it was a hot 35 degree celsius day and I was still wearing my UGG boots! My feet were stinking hot!
With that dreadful experience now behind me, I have learnt how to really make the most of travelling. Travelling can be awful or as fun as you want it to be. People often think of travelling as a necessary evil to get to the journey but for me, I now think of it as down-time to catch up on so many things that I want and love to do! I get really excited about the flight because I can’t help but think about all the things I want to do there.
Now that I am a full-time wedding photographer, I find that my work days go by so quickly because I’m finally doing what I love. I now get really excited about the flight because I can’t help but think about all the things I want to do there (my list was 80% work, but hey I love it!). I was sure that as long as I could work on the flight, it would so quickly.. and it did! Sure, I was tired and my back ached but it was so worth it. I’m here now and soaking up all the warmth and sun I can get!
Here’s my desk for the next little while..
