Sorry guys! I’ve been a little absent on this blog! If you’re in the East Coast of North America you’re probably wondering as much as I about when winter is going to end. I’ve had enough of deep freezing temperatures, the dry air, and the massive dumpings of snow!
A few weeks ago I had returned from a much needed vacation in Asia! There’s nothing better than amazingly warm weather, delicious food, interesting cultures, beautiful scenery and precious time spent with family. We started off with a day-trip in Japan, trying to eat as much sushi as we could devour. We then travelled over to my family’s home town in Malaysia and spent time with some of my family who I hadn’t seen in over a decade! It was Chinese New Year, so we filled up our stomachs with so much delightful food. We then hopped on a plane over to Thailand and soaked in as much serenity as we could. Nothing beats authentic food from the local streets of Asia. Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Green Curry, fresh coconuts… But before we knew it, we were on the plane again to Singapore and running around the whole city trying to do it all. At this point, we were exhausted but we didn’t want to admit that our trip was coming to an end and we were scheduled to return back to the chilling temperatures of Toronto.
Asia is so bursting with energy yet there was something so soothing about it. It must be that it had been such a long time since I had been to my ‘home country’. I’ve always known that my real home country was Australia, but it was the first time I ever came to terms with the fact that my first home is Asia. It felt so comforting to be back ‘home’, to understand my culture, my family, my background. I wanted to spend so much more time there despite the fact that I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes, sweating like a pig due to the heat, and not being able to communicate with locals since I didn’t know the language.
Now that I am back, I can’t help but flip through my photos and see how beautiful Asia really is. I am surprised it took me this long to realize it. If you haven’t been to Asia, I really recommend it. I now want to go back there as much as I possibly can!
If you don’t already, please make sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram! You can always keep up with my photo dailies there. Also, you’ll be able to see beautiful Asia really is. All my Instagram vacation photos were taken by my iPhone. It is amazing what the iPhone can do, especially when you’ve got such a gorgeous location! It won’t let you down!
