If you didn’t already know, my second shooter is my beloved husband Elliott. He has been my saviour when it comes to my business and my wedding photography. Not only does he have an always available ear to jabber on to, or a compassionate shoulder to cry on, he has always stepped up when I needed him to. In scrolling through the below snaps from our behind the scenes of 2015, you’ll see that he has many jobs behind being my second shooter! He is my trusty dress fluffer (for perfect dress photos), veil flying machine (for magical flying veils), my light tester (to make sure for perfect exposures and white balances), getting rid of distracting elements (such as scaring off seagulls in the background and picking up garbage on the ground to clean up the shot!) and a personal porter (for both me and my clients – carrying all my gear, getting me my equipment on the fly and changing my lenses, memory cards or batteries as I need it, and even carrying my client’s jackets, bags, balloons, bouquets and bridal dresses!). He has also helped so many grooms and groomsmen put on their boutonnieres and bowties. It can be quite tricky to get right if you’ve never done it before!
I really could not have gone through the last year without this man. He is incredible and makes every wedding day fun. Weddings can be stressful but Elliott always makes me feel calm and solves every problem I may encounter. My clients always say that I am so calm despite it being so chaotic on the wedding day. But it’s really because I have Elliott by my side. I don’t know how he does it, but I know that he will also help and fix everything. Last year, I shared some photos from behind the scenes of wedding photography in 2014 and wanted to show some of the photos from 2015! This blog post is not only the opportunity for you to see what goes on behind the scenes of our lives as a wedding photographer, but a dedication to him. Thank you babe for your amazing work in supporting me through and through and being the best second shooter (and husband, of course!) you could ever ask for.
I love this bridal suite at The Estates of Sunnybrook! The muave wallpaper is so pretty! Making sure to allocate at the end of bridal prep is important to make sure we get some photos before the ceremony with family and friends who are so excited for you!
Perfect photography comes with a mobile subject to test the light on. Here we are starting our day with a test on each other. Snap snap!
Here I am with Farah and Sean, they had a few poses they had sent me from Pinterest so I wanted to make sure they got what they wanted!
Sometimes we get to locations early and I always make Elliott be my tester before my clients arrive. Knowing exactly where to shoot makes the shoot go a whole lot faster! As soon as my clients arrived I put them right in this exact spot to get the beautiful bokeh of the pretty magnolias in the background!
While I am focused on the bride, Elliott takes the time to also photograph the bridesmaids to get as many photos as we can during the bridal prep!
Here our bride Rachel wanted to put the boutonniere on her father but wasn’t sure how. Elliott helped her with it and once she got a quick class, we were able to photograph her putting it on smoothly!
Elliott being again my trusty light tester!
For Rachel and Arjun’s wedding it poured hard during their portrait time! We hid undercover and figured out together which poses we were wanted to do under cover while it continued to rain and which we wanted to risk during in the rain!
Kristina was such a sweet and fun bride to be around which made for lots of laughs behind the scenes!
Elliott capturing candids of lots of guests!
In Canada, the sun sets quite late in the summer time (usually around 8:30-9:00pm). We try to schedule some time during the reception where there’s not too much going on and steal the bride and groom for some sunset shots! It is so worth it! Here I am trying to show Kristina how to pose.
Personally this shot is one of my favourites! Not only is he taking care of Stephanie’s purse, she is also holding onto her balloons for the shoot until we need it. As I was shooting I noticed the seagulls in the background were too distracting and wanted a nice clean shot. So he ran off to scare them all away. Even though I do most of the shooting, he really does way more work than I do.. Hahaha.
The boys really wanted a ‘sock photo’ so I asked them to pose on the steps to showcase their flashy socks!
Bridal prep can be really chaotic especially when you have a lot of people in the room! But is is always a fun and exciting time for everyone! Here we are making sure we don’t miss a thing!
Before we head off to the ceremony, we wanted to make sure we get some groomsmen shots out in Will’s yard. Here I am trying to make sure the boys looked spiffy before I took the shot.
Always love seeing our names on the guest list! Lindsay’s table seating chart was so pretty and included cute bows (she and I share a thing for bows!)
Sometimes I’ve posed everyone but Elliott goes in and fixes a few minor little details such as the dress or hair to make sure we get the perfect shot!
Shooting at Piper’s Heath is always fun with it’s beautiful long grass!
I love stealing the bride & groom during the reception for sunset shots. Look at the light! So worth it, right?
During the reception, we like to stay out of the way and around the sides. I don’t like going up to the front and in the way. Being non-intrusive is our shooting style!
Whoops, got myself in the mirror!
Directing on Meera and Samir’s wedding day on how to pose!
Sometimes Elliott will take the initiative and go out hunting for some new spots to photograph while I’m focused on the bride & groom. Being efficient on the wedding day is key!!
There’s limited time on a wedding day and I am often photographing family portraits during cocktail hour. This is when my trusty Elliott will go out and capture candids of guests!
Elliott helping Meera with her dress!
As Elliott was responsible for the photobooth, I was the light tester this time! In this case, too much shadow on the background!
We always have designated roles on the wedding day so we know exactly what to do! Elliott is responsible for getting the groom’s reaction as the bride comes down the aisle and I am responsible for getting the bride’s reaction!
Being a light tester again!
My dear Elliott getting guests reactions as the bride & groom make their entrance!
The groomsmen love Elliott on the wedding day! You would never know that he’s helped them put on so many boutonnieres! Perfect placement is key as you don’t want it to be in the way of your face and you don’t want it to be lopsided! I’ve seen so many times where groomsmen didn’t realize they didn’t put it on securely and it became lopsided over the course of the day. Oops! That’s when Elliott helps them fix it :)
Elliott telling them that you need TWO pins not just one! Make sure it’s secure! A lopsided boutonniere is sad looking :(
Elliott running in behind the bride & her father to get the groom’s reaction!
The only ever time I come up to the front near the alter is to photograph the signing. Otherwise we stay at the back and out of the way.
Photographing the bride & groom ringing the bell!
Elliott capturing the bride & groom as they come out of the chapel. They always have the best expressions! So happy!

Trusty light tester! Got to get it right in camera!
Here I am showing Aislynn and Ryan where to stand and what to do for the cake cutting shots!
HEY LIGHT TESTER!
AH! PRETTY LIGHT! .. This is where we do most of the bridal prep shots. I love windows!!
Elliott capturing candids of guests!
Can’t live without my light tester.. and that smile!
I don’t like being a light tester though especially when I look all gross from running around all day!
Listening to client’s requests!
Fixing bridal bouquets and making sure it is perfect before we photograph it!
Fixing all backgrounds and making sure it is perfect before we photograph it!
Taking the time to get photos for guests if they want it!
Getting the flash output right out in the forest out in Muskoka was important!
Photographing the bridesmaids as the groomsmen watch on!
Elliott helps everybody on the day. Even helping to carry client’s personal items for them! Doesn’t he look fab with a bouquet hahaha!
Elliott always helps me to get a different angle.
Getting the light right out in the dark is hard so I’m always so thankful Elliott is there to help me get it right before we ask for get everyone in front of the camera!
Perfect dress, perfect photo!
The secret to magical flying veils!
The only ever time I come up close to photograph the bride & groom during the ceremony!

Elliott helping me carry my gear as well as getting in close!
Sometimes my directing of posing can look a little awkward hahaha
Connecting with the bride and groom before and during the wedding day is so important to us! We make it a priority to make we understand exactly what they want through communication!
Elliott is my master for groom portraits!
While I photograph bridal details!
Sometimes on a wedding day we are waiting around for the bride & groom to arrive. So we take the time to do some test shots!
Weddings can be challenging like running around videographer equipment! I don’t like to get in their shot nor do I want them in mine!
We help with setting up if it means we get it done faster!
