Jeremy grew up in Jamaica and Mina grew up in Korea but when they were teenagers, they both moved to Canada and became accountants. They met while working at the same accounting firm in Bermuda six years ago. I asked them to tell me how they met and they gave me the most lavish love story.
It was October 2013, winds were gently gusting across pink sand beaches, crystal blue waves lapped the shores, Blurred Lines was atop the charts and due to overwhelming popularity of the front facing camera, Webster added the word selfie to the dictionary. Jeremy and Mina met one sunny afternoon in Bermuda and it was mild interest at first sight! After a few weeks of sparse messaging and exchanges of professional work emails they generated enough interest to have dinner together at the Pickled Onion.
Being familiar with the nuances of Bermuda and keen to show off, Jeremy offered to help Mina buy a moped (scooter). Little did he know Mina was already getting lots of help! A determined Jeremy was not discouraged by this… he slayed cockroaches, scrubbed mold and cooked his way into her heart. After spending the Christmas holidays of 2013 apart, they reunited in charming Bermuda 2014 and have been inseparable since.
After their Bermuda time, Jeremy went back to Toronto where home is to live his entrepreneurial dream while Mina moved to New York to pursue her career. While keeping themselves busy with work, they occasionally paid visits to each other. Two years passed. Jeremy got all settled in and Mina was ready to join him in Canada. One uneventful evening a few months after they reunited, Jeremy “found” this poster on a winter festival and suggested that they check it out. At the winter festival was a caricature artist who offered the couple a free drawing. As the finished drawing was flipped over to Mina and their music started playing all over the park, she saw the message written with the caricatures and Jeremy down on one knee. There was a “YES” and the rest is history 🙂
I love how Jeremy and Mina managed to incorporate their heritage in their wedding. Their wedding day began at home where they had the traditional Chinese door games. Jeremy and his groomsmen then had to successfully endure a set of hilarious tasks created by Mina’s bridesmaids. They then served tea to Jeremy’s side of his family during the Chinese tea ceremony.
Before saying their I Do’s at the beautiful Casa Loma, we photographed the moment they first saw each other that day. Jeremy and Mina hugged each other but it wasn’t until the ceremony that things got very real. Jeremy started to get emotional as he walked down the aisle himself and when he saw Mina, he could not control the emotions that came to him. It was so sweet! After some portrait time, we followed them to Jeremy’s Poke Box store in downtown Toronto for a few cute pictures.
At their reception room at Bellvue Manor, it was beautifully decorated in their wedding colours of mint and gold. They had gorgeous gold Louis chairs, Royal Doulton china table settings, gold beaded charger plates, and gold votive candles. They had a four-tier wedding cake with buttercream flowers. Each layer had a different flavour – one of which was a Korean style flavour (mugwort injeolmi). It was so cute they had designed their own menu cards, place cards and wedding favours themselves.
In the evening, they vowed their guests with an incredible first dance with dry ice that surrounded them. Both Jeremy and Mina later changed into the traditional Korean Hanboks and then surprised each other with amazingly choreographed K-Pop style routine to kick off the dance floor.
Jeremy and Mina’s wedding day was surely enjoyed by all their guests. As Jeremy’s best man put it – they are both very kind-hearted and generous. They are always thinking of others and you could see it by the fact that they had put so much thought in each detail and even the food theat was served. Each table (even us vendors!) got a lobster tail each – and for that, I want to say on behalf of everyone – we are truly grateful!
Thank you for having us capture this special day of yours Jeremy and Mina!
