2017 started off with a big bang at the Estates of Sunnybrook! Claire had wanted a New Year’s wedding since she was about ten years old and quite honestly, I couldn’t have thought of a better idea. To celebrate your love with all your closest friends and family AND ring in the new year at the same time? BEST IDEA EVER! Their Estates of Sunnybrook wedding at the Vaughan Estate was classy and elegant with some accents of “bling”.
Claire wore the perfect dress from Sash & Bustle for the occasion. Her Theia Couture Marion slinky dress was made with gorgeous beading and she wore the Elsa overskirt that provided an ethereal touch for her ceremony and portraits. It was easy to remove the overskirt for her reception and party through the night. It was the perfect wedding slash celebration combo ensemble!
Claire and Nico had a first look before their ceremony and it was just the cutest! First looks are SO cute because it is when the bride and groom get to see each other for the first time that day and enjoy a few minutes alone together. It was a chilly winter day so Claire cozied up in a fur wrap and we were able to get some lovely pictures out in the snow. Their reception started off with some heartfelt speeches about how Claire’s sisters wanted to grill Nico when they first met him but couldn’t because he was just TOO nice of a guy. I love the story about how Claire once went shopping for spanx but she was a little regretful because it was expensive. Claire is the least person in the world that needs it but kept telling her that she needed it! Turns out he didn’t know what spanx was and just wanted to support her through everything. LOVE!!!!
There was too much to love about this couple and their family. You could tell how loving they are with one another even though Claire and Nico currently live in Singapore. It was in Singapore that had actually brought them together six years ago on a Study Abroad program. They went back to University to finish school (Claire in Toronto and Nico in the Netherlands) and then Nico later moved to Toronto. In November 2015, Nico proposed underneath the Christmas tree at the Distillery District only a few days before they moved back to Singapore together. A year later, Claire’s father passed away unexpectedly, just over a month ago before their wedding.
Claire’s mother, Leslie, affirmed that although he wasn’t physically there, he was certainly there in spirit. She explained that although most father of the brides don’t have a lot of involvement with wedding planning, Claire’s father did because he was so looking forward to see his daughter marry Nico. After a long day of venue visiting, he was the one who decided on the Estates of Sunnybrook. He was the one that went to the taste testing and chose what their guests would eat that night. He was the one that sealed every single envelope with their wedding invitations. And if that wasn’t enough, you could certainly see the love Claire, her sisters and her mom have for each other and that had to be because of how loving their father was.
Claire and Nico had a different kind of wedding cake in that it was made out of wheels of cheese from Leslieville Cheese Market. I love how Claire and Nico brought in a touch of Holland to their wedding. They also had Dutch clogs for their wedding guests to sign and give their well wishes as well as a bright orange hat with the words “HOLLAND” for their photo booth. They also had New Year’s party hats, whistles, necklaces and glow sticks for their guests for the new year’s party. Just before the New Year’s countdown, Claire and Nico got up in front of all their guests with a bottle of Veue Clicquot to share a new year’s kiss and toast all their guests. Of course, it had to be the last wedding of 2016 to be the #bestweddingoftheyear.
