Pauline and William met at a church group. They had been friends for some time before they began to give dating a try. It turned out that they’ve had such a good time together that William says he wants to “remember everything about us since the day we met”. I think it’s amazing that even though they may have arguments and disagreements, they’ll always end up laughing together. Pauline loves his laugh. She says “it’s always filled with this deep glee and he laughs as if nothing else matters at that moment”. He is also “generous and selfless”, prioritising her and his family over himself.
In February last year, they were holidaying in Bali and on their last day at the resort he asked Pauline to go for a walk. Pauline thought it was strange because he never goes for a walk! But they walked around the resort and settled into a couple of chairs by the pool. Pauline says she remembers “looking up at the sky and thinking how gorgeous the blue colour is. Then I heard him call my name, so I sat up and saw him kneeling with a ring in his hands”! It was such a sweet proposal but what I really love about them is that they would never give up on each other despite all their shortcomings.
Pauline and William wanted their wedding to not just be traditional but fun too. They tried not to stick to the status quo and do things our own way to make the day feels like more like themselves as a couple. Their faith plays a huge role in both of their lives so the wedding mass was an important part of the day for them. They ended up having a beautiful Catholic wedding ceremony at Blessed Trinity Parish. “It’s where we, as a couple, make a covenant with each other before God and the Church, witnessed by those closest to us.” Even the welcome sign says “They will be glad of heart” (Sirach 26:4), a bible verse that was taken from their first reading and will be in their minds throughout their preparation for the sacrament. It was beautiful how they also thanked their parents during the ceremony before they said their wedding vows, as well as they, brought a bouquet to Mother May and said a prayer to her.
Pauline and William incorporated their wedding colours to their invitation suite. Their friend helped them create a monogram that included botanicals since Pauline loves greeneries, especially eucalyptus branches. Their wedding reception at Fantasy Farms was decorated with delightful seasonal floral centrepieces and mason jars with fairy lights. These details, as well as the wedding cakes, were all made by their dear friends. The cake was made of a classic vanilla sponge cake with lemon curd filling as well as a pandan sponge cake with palm sugar filling. Yum! I love pandan! They even had their friends Jessica and Natasha to help coordinate their wedding day and did a marvellous job! The room looked perfect, with the soft white drapery backdrop combined with the floral and greeneries on their sweetheart table.
Many of Pauline and William’s family came all the way over from Indonesia to witness this special day. They also made sure to have a tea ceremony to pay tribute to their Chinese heritage to honour the elders in their families. We photographed them amongst the Toronto skyline at Riverdale Park, such an iconic place in the city! I really love how we took time out of the day to head over to Rooster Coffee House, a place that they like to frequent and enjoy together. It was a nice break for them since it was so cold outside – a typical winter’s day. I should mention that my favourite bridal detail of Pauline’s was her shoes! She decided to go for winter comfort over looks and I applaud her! She wore a cute pair of fur mocassins from SoftMoc. Being comfortable, especially on your wedding day is the best way to go to make sure you really enjoy your day.
At the end of the night, their families hit the dance floor and turned the heat way up! I honestly had so much fun photographing the two of them enjoying themselves with their family and friends dancing the night away. Almost everybody joined in on the fun too. You could just tell that everyone wanted to be part of the joy of their wedding celebrations.
Congratulations Pauline and William and thank you for inviting us to photograph this incredible day!
