This year I was extra looking forward to Halloween as this was my first time living in a house in Toronto. We don’t really celebrate Halloween in Australia where I grew up. We would only get a kid coming to trick or treat in my neighbourhood once every three years or so. Because we don’t expect any children, we often get caught unprepared and we only have muesli bars (Aussie term for granola bars) in our kitchen pantry!
Living over in the Toronto beaches has been quite a lifestyle change from living in a condo. There are so many families and I really do feel the sense of community here. It’s so relaxed and definitely less noisy than living downtown! As I see so many children running to school every morning on my street we were expecting a non-stop crazy Trick or Treat hour last night. On a whim and very very last minute, on the Eve of Halloween we carved our first Halloween pumpkin ever! I had to bring Asian to the hood and I think Hello Kitty is so damn cute. Here’s our first attempt! Hope to do better next year!
We had a number of kids come by to our house and this time, totally prepared we had a tonne of candy to give away. We love the reaction on kids faces when we threw a tonne of candy in their bags and they squealed in gratitude. We had a tonne of compliments on our Hello Kitty pumpkin too. My favourite costume of the night was a little girl who was about 2 years old and she was dressed in a skin tight sunflower costume. ADORBS!!
Hope you had a fun Halloween this year! Hope to turn it up another level next year!
