Photographing Jeena and Run’s wedding day was very special for me. I’ve known Jeena since she was a little baby with the cutest chubby cheeks. My mother babysat her while both of her parents worked and so we spent almost everyday growing up together. As I witnessed Jeena and Run’s wedding day unfold, it made me realize how much we have grown and how proud I am of all of us. When we were younger, the thought of getting older and getting married was something in the very distant future. As a child, we could never have imagined our lives turning out the way they have, but am so grateful and pleased with it all. We are still together. We are happy. We are loved.
Jeena and Run’s wedding day started at her family’s home where they got ready and served tea to their families. They exchanged their vows in a beautiful Buddhist ceremony at the SGI Australia Victorian Culture Centre which was preceded by the chanting of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. We later went over to Carlton Gardens, a place that is very familiar with us Melbourne University alumni as this was the ‘place of terror’ where we had university exams. As Jeena and Run studied optometry together, it was a special place for them and it is undeniable that the Royal Exhibition Building is a stunning place.
Just like their pre-wedding photo session in Mornington, the forecast was calling for rain. Although we weren’t able to get the sunset photos we were hoping for that day, we were so lucky to have been able to get sunset photos out on St Kilda Beach. It was so awesome to photograph both on the rooftop of the St Kilda Seabaths building where their reception hall, Encore was situated. It was a beautiful place with floor to ceiling windows that looked out to Port Phillip Bay and opened right up onto St Kilda Beach.
As a wedding photographer, I have been to and photographed a number of weddings but this wedding was by far the most special to me. I’ve known Jeena and her family to be very close and such kind and warm-hearted people. I flew over 17,000 kms to be here at this wedding but I am beyond thrilled and truly honoured to have been able to capture these special and joyous moments in their lives.
