Every year, I write a blog post reflecting on the year that just went by. This time around, it is a little late since our last wedding was held on the last day of the year – New Year’s Eve! Shortly after, we were busy with engagement party shoots and we then took off to Australia to photograph a wedding! As such, the last few weeks have been a whirlwind. While this is usually a Toronto wedding photographer’s off-season, I don’t really have one per-se! I find that I’m photographing all year round. December to January is often when most couples get engaged, being a very festive and joyous time and so we tend to do a lot of engagement parties at this time.
November to March is also wedding season in Australia since it’s the Spring/Summer. In 2016, we started to get more requests for Melbourne wedding photography. I have to say, it could not be more perfect since I am not great with the cold and I will take any excuse to get out of the winter in Toronto to enjoy some sun and warmth! So a huge thank you to all my Australian clients who have given me the opportunity to come back home and thaw out a little! 🙂 I’m so enjoying the tingly warm feeling of the sun on my skin as well as being able to watch the Australian Open in Melbourne LIVE! (The tennis is so awesome, btw… If you haven’t been to the Australian Open, you got to get your butts over here!)
In 2016, we continued to have worked with the most loveliest couples who had the sweetest families! Although we may photograph over thirty weddings a year, we must never forget that every couple is so unique and each wedding is so special. I really loved getting to know each and every one of their love stories and being able to tell their story to the world. I always love learning about how they met, the way in which they fell in love, and why they love each other. I always want the why to come through our photographs so that they can continue to remember and cherish these memories for years on end.
Last year was not only a big year for me because it was the year I became a full-time wedding photographer in Toronto, but my husband and I celebrated our marriage with a Bali wedding as well as a Toronto wedding. Yes, we had two weddings in two different countries which was seriously crazy. But it has made our jobs as wedding photographers even more special because we truly understand the importance of our wedding photographs as well as have first-hand experience of being a bride & groom on a wedding day! We get how stressful it can be and we can soooo empathize with you!
Being a wedding photographer can too be stressful, but we count ourselves so lucky to be in the business of weddings for so many reasons! Firstly, I love how we are always surrounded by love! Listening to my client’s love stories always reminds me of the fact that I am so lucky to have found my husband and how much I want to continue spending the rest of my life with him. To love and be loved is one of life’s greatest joys and I am continually reminded of how we should never take this for granted. Photographing over thirty wedding ceremonies a year also means that we get to listen to many words of advice for love and commitment. Although we photograph weddings of many different cultures and religions, it’s always so interesting how we are bound by a common element: love.
After three years of being a wedding photographer, I am still loving this job! I am really so grateful to all my clients who have continued to choose ME to capture one of the most special days of their lives! It makes it all worthwhile when our clients tell us how appreciative they are of our work and how they can see the passion of my work. But I really have all my clients to thank for this amazing job I have. It’s truly a dream job! I love each and every one of you and I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without all of you!
Here are some of my favourite moments of 2016. Enjoy!
