Andrea and Cesar met in London through mutual friends and instantly bonded over their love of wine. Cesar had just signed up for a wine course and Andrea had just completed a course a few years prior. On their second night out, they had already started planning a trip to Iceland. Even though Andrea thought they would never do it, six months later they were driving around the entire island together. Since then, they have travelled to all sorts of destinations together including adventures around the arctic circle in the middle of winter, going on a Scotch tour in the highlands, skiing in the French Alps, touring museums in Russia, dancing at local festivals in Spain and always making the trek back to Andrea’s home country, Canada every year.
Andrea and Cesar had so many shared interests such as baking, throwing gourmet dinner parties, trying new recipes and exploring weird and wacky food together. I think that’s what keeps their relationship so strong, that they connect so easily over these shared interests and also able to go and explore new things together.
After two and a half years of being together, Cesar took Andrea for a drive along the French coast (where Cesar is originally from) in a Mercedes convertible and proposed in a medieval coastal town just outside a tiny chapel near his father’s house. They celebrated with a romantic Michelin Star lunch and then returned to his father’s house and were then greeted by his family with champagne and fresh seafood. They celebrated the whole night all together. Although they had met and lived in London all this while, they have now moved to Canada in time for their wedding.
Andrea and Cesar’s wedding was what I call beautiful and authentic in that they kept it true to who they are as a couple. As they have a passion for food, wine and adventure they made sure to incorporate it into their wedding day. Andrea’s bridesmaids wore steel blue dresses and all had white flowers with hints of pinks and reds which matched the red ties of the groomsmen. To pay homage to Cesar’s French heritage, his father read some prayers and readings in French as well as they had their guests throw lavender around them as they exited the wedding chapel at Appleby College. I love how the pews faced the centre and it was very reminiscent of the Royal wedding. Cesar and Andrea had gotten a cute blue vintage Volkswagen van for their wedding getaway car. It was so fun to use for photos!
Their wedding reception at Granite Ridge was so lovely. Andrea’s dad spoke about how it was so hard to give his daughter away but knew that she was in good hands in that he took really good care of Andrea. He also reminisced about how Andrea and her sister loved to play princess growing up but he was so glad that she finally found her Prince Charming. Andrea’s sister joked about how it was funny how Andrea had gone to London to take her MBA in wine with 1 suitcase but came back with 6 suitcases and a husband.
When it came to Cesar and Andrea’s speech, Cesar admitted that he had never thought he would have wanted to get married but it must have been because he hadn’t found the right person as yet. But when he met Andrea, everything changed. Since Andrea loves wine so much, she is so glad that Cesar is a wine nerd like her. Even Antoine, Cesar’s best friend, asserted to how perfect they are for each other. He said that when he first met Andrea, she seemed too good to be true and was always waiting for the “but” (the negative to come up). For example, she had beautiful eyes but no teeth (how hilarious!). But it never happened. She really was too perfect!
He then later explained how it was not surprising that so many of Cesar’s friends flew all the way to Canada to celebrate this day with him. This is because Cesar had the ability to make everything “awesome”. One example he gave was from earlier that day when Cesar was waiting for Andrea to arrive for the wedding ceremony. They had found a rubber chicken and sent a text to Andrea saying that if she didn’t arrive at the chapel by 2:15 pm, he would marry the chicken instead.
I think all of this proves how fun this day was for everyone because of how Andrea and Cesar really incorporated themselves into the wedding day. With the beautiful French fusion wedding ceremony, the cute VW van, to giving their guests sparkling wine wedding favours, to just a really fun dance party at the end – it was just an amazing day. Congratulations Andrea and Cesar!
