I recently learned about the Southern Ontario Orchid Society and their gorgeous annual orchid shows. What I love about their shows is that if you’re a photographer (professional or amateur) you can attend on the dedicated photographer’s only day and all your fancy gear is allowed! Yes, that’s right – your gigantic and steady tripod, your beautiful expensive lens and your sexy flash. Knowing this, I excitedly put the event time and date in my calendar and counted down the days. “Beautiful orchids all for me to photograph! What a dream!”, I thought.
To my dismay there were photographers everywhere all cramped up in the show room at the Toronto Botantical Gardens with their annoying giganic tripods, their stupidily expensive lenses and crazy flash heads. I planned to spend my entire morning here but ended up leaving after half an hour very disappointed. While there seemed to be a million orchids, there wasn’t much opportunity to take that many photographs.
Disheartened, I left the images on my memory card for months.
But I finally pulled the images up and was surprised about what I managed to capture in the small time I was there. If you have flowers as beautiful as these – how can you go wrong? I decided to put them up for all of you to see as orchids are so elegantly beautiful. Enjoy!
