Kate & Kerstin have been together for 11 years. After briefly meeting at a Buddhist conference and spending time as friends, they quickly realized how amazingly similar they were with each other. After making it to 10 years, they finally decided to tie the knot with a beautiful ceremony in their home and Kerstin’s family had flown in all the way from Germany and Switzerland to witness this momentous occasion.
However a week before their wedding, Toronto was hit with one of the most major ice storms in history making their home completely out of power for 6 days straight. They were forced to camp in their own home, using fireplace to keep warm, using the gas stove to cook meals. They were deeply worried that they would not be able to hold their wedding! But luckily enough, the power returned to them only a few days prior and they were able to host their special day in their own home.
Kate, Kerstin and their family all wore gorgeous colourful Indian dresses during their wedding. It was so fresh to see flowers, colours, and joy in the midst of such a brutally cold winter in Toronto. Their ceremony consisted of chanting the two chapters of the Lotus Sutra, followed by a Japanese sake ceremony, their vows, some short speeches from family, and of course, one of Kate’s enchanting songs about their relationship. Knowing that Kate & Kerstin finally officialized their love through marriage brought so much happiness to everybody in the room.
I felt so privileged to have been able to witness such a joyous and beautiful ceremony, let alone capture it! Kate and Kerstin have given so much of their lives to the happiness of the others, that I would want nothing else than all the happiness in the world for themselves as well.
