Alice and Chang met while they were in their early teens at a family friend’s house. They ended up hitting it off right away and always had so much to talk about. They would keep in touch over email and MSN, and even saw each other at future family gatherings. Although they didn’t actually date, they got to know each other over the years. Alice and her family then moved away for a few years during high school, but in Grade 12 they started to date officially and even went to prom together. So cute!
In their first year of university, Chang went to McMaster’s and Alice went to Queen’s. With Chang’s help, she applied to transfer into the same Health Sciences program as him and was accepted! They spent the next three years together. Although they ended up going to different medical schools and residency programs in different cities, their relationship always stayed strong. While Alice was doing her residency in Ottawa, Chang visited her for a weekend and took her on a hike in Gatineau Park to view the beautiful fall leaves. Chang romantically proposed at sunset and said she yes!
Alice and Chang’s relationship has mostly been long distance and they have travelled far and wide across Ontario/Quebec over the years to make it work. Although it had never been easy, their shared values and goals always kept them together over the years. I think it’s really important to note how important it is to trust and rely on your partner. Alice and Chang is absolute proof of that. They were extremely loyal to each other from the beginning and never doubted or gave up on their relationship. Alice always knew that she could turn to him for strength and that was really important in keeping the two of them together. Chang had always been one to think and plan for their future together. Since they always had their eyes on the bigger picture, they were able to work together as one. They are excited to be living under the one roof soon. Next year they will have finished their fellowship training and will both be fully fledged doctors!
This wedding day of Alice and Chang was such a celebration between their families. They wanted their wedding day to be elegant and contemporary and based around the traditional Chinese blue and white porcelain vases. Their wedding cake was a true example of this theme since it had the intricate Chinese porcelain vase design. Alice’s bridesmaids wore different shades of blue and Chang’s groomsmen wore blue suits. Alice chose this theme as a nod to their Chinese culture and background since they both come from a first-generation Chinese immigrant family. I came to know absolutely thankful Alice and Chang were to their parents, in sacrificing themselves to move to Canada in order to give their children a better life and education. Both knew how dedicated and hardworking their parents were to set them up for their futures, so their heartfelt speeches dedicated to their parents during their dinner reception was just so sweet.
Although Alice and Chang had planned this wedding from two separate cities (Ottawa and Montreal), they had such a beautiful day! I loved capturing Alice’s face beam with joy while she was with her bridesmaids and then later when she saw Chang for the first time that morning during their first look. Alice and Chang’s read their wedding vows in a beautiful intimate wedding ceremony at the Casa Loma. It was so nice to see them celebrate on the dance floor at the Old Mill at the end of the night! Congratulations Alice and Chang!
