I have a love-hate relationship with the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition). The first year I was in Toronto, my friends took me there and we had a lot of fun playing carnival games and going on all the rides. There’s such a great feeling in forgetting about the world and just having fun. I love thrill rides yet I have a strong fear of heights. This means I love the scariest of rollercoasters, but can’t handle the big drop, the chair swings or even the lamest of them all – the chair lifts.
The CNE is an awesome place to go and feel like a kid again. The carnival games are simple but can be so rewarding even when you win a small floppy monkey toy (with such cheap stitching that the stuffing is already bursting out and yes I had this happen to me). I love getting cotton candy, licking on caramel apples and the smell of popcorn (I don’t even like popcorn, but I think its scent is heaven!). I love petting the farm animals and boy I really love getting my annual visit to see the llamas (I really loveeee llamas, they are so fluffy!).
The only thing I hate about the CNE is that we know that summer has come to an end. In my first year of living in Toronto, I hadn’t known this until my friends had told me. Now every year I see or hear about any advertising, I slump lower in my chair as I struggle to come to grips with the reality that summer is ending.
When Janet and Livingstone asked me for recommendations on where to have their engagement session I jumped at the opportunity to do their photos at the CNE. It’s so fun and happy. I love the colours and the bright lights. It’s surely a place where you can go to forget about your worries and have a great time. The CNE is a meaningful place for Janet and Livingstone, being the place where they became official. I think that’s super cute because now every time they come here, it’s a place to celebrate their love.
I love that idea. Celebrating. Let us think of the CNE as not a sign of the end-of-summer but the celebration of summer. Let us enjoy every moment of what is left of summer with our family and friends. Let us forget our worries and just have fun. I so love this summer engagement session at the CNE with Janet and Livingstone! They were so worried about being awkward in the photos but because they were focused on just having a great time together, it was so easy to capture so many happy and fun moments!
