Meera and Samir had a mutual girlfriend who connected them at a party. They didn’t hit it off at the beginning despite Meera taking the initiative to get to know each other. It was only over time that they continued to see each other at the same parties and realized they had more friends in common than they thought. After becoming friends for three years, their friendship took a turn unexpectedly and have now been together for 2 and a half years.
Just last Christmas, Meera had travelled to England to be with her family for the holidays. Samir had initially planned to accompany Meera but had to stay back in Toronto for work. But so he said! He ended up following Meera to England and showed up on their front door on Christmas morning! But that was not the end of Samir’s surprises. On December 30 he surprised Meera with a hotel room in Regent’s Park, saying it would be nice to have their own space for a couple of days and be close to the New Year’s Eve action. Samir told Meera to get dressed up at The Shard that evening, which is beautifully encased with glass on the 32nd floor of the Shang-Ri-La Hotel and offers a spectacular view of the city. It is definitely the place you go to celebrate something special!
Meera’s cousins started to tease her and got it into her head that Samir was going to propose. So they went onto have a beautiful evening.. but no proposal! The next day on NYE, Meera had plans to watch the fireworks from her cousin’s rooftop but Samir had bought two tickets for them to watch the fireworks along the Thames. Meera prepared for the night by wearing leggings and a warm sweater but Samir insisted she dress up and go out to enjoy a nice NYE dinner. Samir ended up taking her over to the London Bridge station and walked her down to the water… to a boat! Samir surprised her again but this time with a five hour boat cruise along the Thames which would stop right in front of the London Eye for the fireworks at midnight!
Close to midnight, Samir took her to the top deck to get a good seat to watch the fireworks and started asking her if he knew why he was in London and why he made a trip full of surprises. Meera thought back to the night before and how she got it wrong, so she didn’t want to say anything. But at that very moment Samir pulled out a box and asked her to marry him. As he put the ring on her finger, the 30 second countdown started happening and the fireworks went off!
For their engagement shoot, Meera and Samir brought a lock and wrote their couple name on it “Sameera” and locked it on the Love Locks exhibit at the Toronto Distillery District. They took the keys and threw them into the lake at Cherry Beach. I look at these photos (especially at the ones at Cherry Beach) and think to myself, “boy, these two look like Versace models!”. I so can’t wait to photograph their wedding later this year which I know will be as spectacular as their engagement!
