By looking at these photos, you totally would not have known that most of their wedding day was planned by Matthew’s parents. Brookie and Matthew live all the way in Japan – where they met and still live together. Having an overseas wedding myself, I completely understood the difficulty with planning a wedding from afar!
Brookie is actually from Thailand and moved to Japan for work while Matt works as a high school math teacher at an international school in Tokyo. Having lived with each other for more than two years now, Matthew decided to propose to Brookie at home where she felt the most comfortable.
Before their wedding ceremony and festivities began, we took Brookie and Matthew down to Cherry Beach and Polson Pier for some romantic photos in the forest and at the beach, as well in front of the Toronto city skyline! The Toronto city skyline was special to them since they had flew all the way from Japan to have their wedding here in Canada. Brookie has been to visit Matthew’s family in Canada three times now but this time she came with her mom and her brother. Although they didn’t know English, they stood by her with every step of the way.
As Matthew comes from a Jewish family, they had a Jewish style wedding ceremony and reception with all the traditions. Their wedding ceremony was held outdoors. despite the fact that it was calling for thundershowers! We lucked out because there was not a single drop during their wedding ceremony!
I loved how natural it was to have it in the lush green forest area of Estates of Sunnybrook, where they had Matthew’s cousins handhold the chuppah. My favourite part of any Jewish wedding ceremony is, of course, the breaking of the glass and the kiss! But for Brookie and Matthew’s wedding ceremony in particular, I thought it was so special that their Rabbi requested all the guests to participate in the wedding ceremony and hold hands. This connected every single individual at their wedding ceremony – it was so beautiful!
I always love to capture Jewish weddings because I know that I am in for a fun start to the reception! Their family and friends got the party started with the traditional Jewish Horah where everybody danced around them and elevated Brookie and Matthew on chairs in the air! What I always love about it is that it gets every single person up and dancing and celebrating this wonderful occasion! Mozel Tov Brookie and Matthew! We had so much fun photographing your wedding day!
