Ramiya and Kumaran’s wedding at The Warehouse included a traditional Sri Lankan Hindu ceremony but with modern and elegant decor elements. Their wedding colour scheme included white, shades of pink and greenery which is reflective of their whimsical dreamy fairytale vision and their personalities. The Warehouse was so beautifully decorated with lots of greenery which reminded me of an indoor garden. Last year, we captured their fairytale engagement proposal on the beach at sunset. Of course, she said yes! Ramiya says that Kumaran has always treated her like a princess and soon to be queen.
Ramiya and Kumaran’s traditional Sri Lankan Hindu pre-wedding ceremonies started even before the sun was up! We started at both Ramiya and Kumaran’s homes at 4:30am in the morning to be ready for their 8:00am ceremony. Ramiya wore a gorgeous traditional pink and orange saree and Kumaran wore beautiful traditional white and gold attire. Although it was so early in the morning, everyone looked so happy and joyous for the celebrations.
We love capturing traditional cultural weddings because of all the deep significance of each wedding ritual. They hold so much meaning and it is really to bless the couple in this new journey in their lives! It was so special when Ramiya came out in her wedding saree which was presented to her from Kumaran. It was a stunning red and gold piece and they both exchanged garlands to each other.
Of course, the tying of the thali was the most significant which is considered a mark of respect, love and dignity and is presented by the groom to his bride during an auspicious hour on their marriage day. It is also a revered symbol of a Hindu marriage. Ramiya and Kumaran still exchanged rings in a civil ceremony which took place after their Hindu ceremonies ended. All 350 of their wedding guests celebrated their official union with a traditional Sri Lankan style lunch which was beyond delicious!
It was so special capturing all of Ramiya and Kumaran’s significant milestones in their relationship – from their proposal to their engagement portraits and now their wedding day! Thank you so so much for having us capture each of these moments for you!
