Tera and Michael’s wedding day had a beautiful classic wedding at the Shangri-La Hotel in downtown Toronto. Tera and her bridesmaids got ready in the morning in one of the suites while her mom helped her get dressed. In a sleek Romona Keveza satin bridal dress and lace back, Tera looked drop dead gorgeous. She paired the look with a silver pair of Miu Miu heels and a mauve and white bouquet made with a combination of orchids and roses.
Tera requested a few “moodier” shots as part of her wedding photography. While it is not usually my photography style, I accepted the challenge to get the shots she wanted on the day! I have to say though – one of my favourite shots is when Tera and Michael did a cute little “pucker face” to each other. Back when I photographed their cozy winter engagement session at their Harbourfront condo, we laughed together about how Michael liked to make that face. So cute!
I really loved how we were able to use their Garden Suite room at the Shangri-La to get some unique shots with the doors, the garden terrace and even a swing! After their first look on the terrace, we headed over to Osgoode Hall for some photos with their bridal party.
As Tera comes from a Chinese family, they had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony with their family. Chinese tea ceremonies are so meaningful because as the gesture of serving the tea is thanking your parents and your elders for bringing you up all these years. It is also when your family can take the time to really send you well wishes for your marriage.
Tera and Michael’s wedding ceremony took place in the stunning Museum Room which had floor to ceiling windows and chandeliers that lined the room. They stood in front of a pink drapery arch and some floating orchids as they said their vows and exchanged rings.
But the heart of the wedding really came out during the speeches. Michael’s dad said that when you have a child, you hope to give back to the world by giving them love so that they hope they do the same. He was so proud that he had grown up to be a kind and caring man and had found love with Tera, a woman who truly makes him happy. Michael’s best man explained how Michael had changed since meeting Tera from a man who he first knew to be wearing Abercrombie t-shirts to a guy who is so polished but also now goes to operas and ballets.
At the end of the night, Tera said that she didn’t think she was the marrying type until she met Michael. They both knew that there was something there when he went cross the border just to bring her Neocitran when she was sick three weeks into dating. I think love is really funny that way in that you can never imagine the things you’ll do for the one you love and you find yourself becoming a better person. My favourite part from their speech was when Michael kept stopping throughout the speech to give his newly married wife a kiss. It just goes to show how much he really cares and adores her. Tera just lights up when she looks at him. You can just tell how much love there is between them and how right they are for each other.
