Samantha and Louchlyn’s relationship can be called a true “Canadian romance found in Chicago”. Samantha is from Toronto and Lock is from Calgary, but they both met in Chicago while they were there pursuing their careers. Sam is a technology consultant and Lock was undergoing a doctorate in optometry. Their first date was a restaurant chosen because it boasted a Canadian flag. They ended up clicking like they were the best of friends.
For the Christmas Holidays of 2016, they both returned back to Canada to meet each other’s families. It was their final test on whether they would make it or break it. After their return to Chicago, Lock proposed on New Year’s Day of 2017 but they decided to postpone their marriage until Lock had completed his program. So one week later, here they were making this commitment with each other!
Samantha calls their wedding day style as “traditional Chinese with white-guy accents”. Their wedding colours were blush pink and gold. They chose The Venetian for its classic beauty and was close to home. Sam and Lock planned their whole wedding from Chicago. Samantha’s sister-in-law, Sonia and Christina from Floraltina Design helped to coordinate the wedding together to make sure everything ran smoothly. Sam found her bridal gown from a Bijou Bridal, a boutique in Chicago. A few days before their wedding, they drove ten hours together to Toronto for the celebrations.
Both Sam and Lock got ready at the Novotel Hotel in Vaughan and then we headed over to Kortright Centre for their bride and groom portraits. Although it was calling for rain all weekend, we were relieved to find sunshine all day! Sam brought a pretty red Chinese parasol for some of the pictures. But what I really loved is how happy these two make each other! It made my job so easy!
Their wedding ceremony at The Venetian was beautiful. But the funniest part was when Sam was reciting her vows and instead of saying “for richer or for poorer” she said, “for richer or for richer”. Lock immediately frowned but the whole room burst into laughter. This is really what like Sam and Lock are like together – always having humour as part of their relationship.
After their ceremony, Sam and Lock participated in the traditional Chinese tea ceremony with their families. They had a traditional Chinese banquet dinner and even had the traditional Lion Dance to entertain all their guests! Sam and Lock’s wedding day was so much fun and you could really tell that their guests had such an amazing time celebrating with them! Thank you Sam and Lock for having us capture this special day!
